Information for Graduating Seniors

As a graduating senior in the Spring, will going abroad during the following May or Summer delay my graduation date?

No. Going abroad during May Session or Summer Session will not delay your graduation. If you have met all of your degree requirements, your degree will be posted effective Spring semester.

Will the grade(s) from my study abroad program abroad be included on my UofM transcript and in my GPA?

In most cases, once your degree is cleared for graduation, your graduation GPA at the top of your UofM transcript will be “frozen” and will not include grades posted for subsequent terms (i.e. May/Summer session grades for a student who graduates in Spring). The grade(s) for your May/Summer study abroad program will be included and visible on your official UofM transcript, however, and they will be factored into your cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the end of your UofM transcript.

Am I eligible to apply to Learning Abroad Center scholarships even though I won’t be a degree-seeking student at the time of my program abroad?

Yes. You are eligible to apply for a Learning Abroad Center scholarship for your May/Summer study abroad program even if you graduate in Spring. Check in with your college to see if there are scholarships available.

Am I eligible for financial aid if I am not a degree-seeking student?

No. In some cases, however, there may be limited eligibility for financial aid.  For more information, email [email protected] and put “Study Abroad Financial Aid” in the subject line.
