The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the rapidly spreading monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency, the organization's highest level of alert. Despite the WHO declaration and the rising cases, the risk to most travelers currently remains low as most recent infections have been the result of close physical contact with someone infected with the monkeypox virus. Similar to COVID-19, the University of Minnesota continues to closely monitor developments related to monkeypox. We will assess new information as it becomes available from the CDC and the WHO, and we are vigilantly watching the status of worldwide travel.
Security Situation in Ukraine: 2/24/22
Leadership of the Learning Abroad Center and colleagues from the University’s International Health, Safety, and Compliance team are carefully monitoring the Russian invasion of Ukraine through multiple sources including the U.S. State Department. The University does not currently have any programs operating in Ukraine or Russia and continues to prohibit independent travel to high-risk international locations. The health and safety of our students, instructors, and on-site staff is our highest priority. At this time, we have not made any changes to any education abroad programs or other associated travel, and we will continue to closely watch developments throughout Eastern Europe.
