Learning Abroad Center

Partial Credit/Early Departure

Policy Statement

A student who departs a study abroad program early due to serious illness, injury, or personal emergency is generally not entitled to extensions or partial credit. Exceptions may be made when a student departs very near to the end of the semester. In those cases, the student may be given permission to complete the course(s) remotely and/or extensions may be granted with a written agreement of the timeframe for completing assignments (generally no more than a few weeks), pending approval by the Learning Abroad Center and program staff. Partial credit cannot be earned for an individual course.

Procedures

A student in this situation needs to contact the Learning Abroad Center as early as possible. The Learning Abroad Center works with the onsite program staff to determine whether the student will be awarded any credit for the program, and/or given the ability to finish the academic work for grades.
