Students are expected to complete all course requirements by the end of the term. In the case of extenuating circumstances, students may be able to request an incomplete (“I”) by agreeing to completion terms in writing if the faculty member, the Learning Abroad Center, and the appropriate onsite staff allow it.
Students must consult with the appropriate onsite staff regarding potential Incomplete grades. Any agreement should be in writing and include the timeline for completion of the course requirements. The timeline for completion should generally not exceed 12 weeks. Students who fail to complete their assignments within the approved incomplete timeline receive a grade of F (or N, if the course was registered under the S/N grade base).
For non-UMN students, it is the student’s responsibility to check whether their home institution allows a grade of “I”. In some cases, a student’s home institution may not allow a grade of “I” and records an “F” or “N” in its place.
After one semester, the “I” will automatically change to an “F” or an “N”, depending on the grade base of the course.
