Learning Abroad Center

Incomplete Grades

Policy Statement

Students are expected to complete all course requirements by the end of the term. In the case of extenuating circumstances, students may be able to request an extension by agreeing to completion terms in writing if the faculty member, the Learning Abroad Center, and the appropriate onsite staff allow it.

Procedures

Students must consult with the appropriate onsite staff regarding potential incomplete grades. Any agreement should be in writing and include the timeline for completion of the course requirements. The timeline for completion should generally not exceed 12 weeks. Students who fail to complete their assignments within the approved extended timeline will receive a grade of F (or N, if the course was registered under a pass/fail grade base).

For non-UMN students, it is the student’s responsibility to consult with their home institution regarding the possibility of delayed grades.
