    2019 Photo & Video Contest Details

    Sponsored by the Learning Abroad Center, STA Travel, and Village Travel

    The 2019 Learning Abroad Center International Photo & Video Contest is open for submissions between October 14 and November 4. A committee will review all entries and choose the 10 photos and 5 videos that best exemplify each category. Vote online for your favorite photos and videos November 11–15! Winners will be announced November 25.

    Contest Guidelines

    Two Submission Photo Categories:

    Perfect Postcard

    Share one image that best exemplifies the beauty of the place in which you studied.

    • A breathtaking landscape or cityscape
    • A street life scene
    • An unforgettable moment


    Gopher Pride

    Submit a photo that showcases UofM students’ Gopher pride abroad.

    • Students in UofM gear
    • Student group photos
    • Gophers exploring


    One Video Submission Category:

    Places & Faces

    Upload a 1 minute video depicting the places and faces you encountered during your travels.

    • Your homestay or walk to class
    • A day of learning, studying, volunteering, or sightseeing
    • You and your classmates experiencing the city

    Who Can Enter?

    • UMTC undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program
    • Those who have traveled outside the United States

    What Photos/Videos Can Be Submitted?

    • Must be taken outside of the United States
    • Must be taken by you (the person submitting the photo)
    • May not be digitally altered beyond basic color correction
    • Must be color (no black and white or sepia)
    • Must be the original digital file (no Facebook or Instagram photos)
    • Photos must be submitted as .jpg or .png file types and must be at least 2000px by 1000px at 300 dpi (resolution)
    • Videos must be uploaded to YouTube
    • Videos must be no longer than 1 minute

    What Are the Rules?

    • 1 photo and 1 video per person per category (maximum of 2 photos and 1 video)
    • Each photo must be entered into one of the specified categories
    • All entries must be submitted online
      • Each submission must include a brief paragraph (30-70 words) describing the photo
      • Entries will be disqualified if they suggest inappropriate behavior, disrespect toward local cultures, or anything that violates the UofM Student Conduct Code 


    10 finalists will be chosen from the pool of submissions; online voting will occur November 11–15. Winners will be announced November 25
