Learning Abroad Center International Photo Contest

    2018 Photo Contest Details

    Sponsored by the Learning Abroad Center, STA Travel, and Village Travel

    Submissions for the 2018 Learning Abroad Center International Photo Contest will be accepted between October 15 and November 5. All entries will be reviewed by a committee that will choose the 10 photos that best exemplify each category. Vote online for your favorite photos November 12–16. Winners will be announced November 26.

    Contest Guidelines

    Three Submission Photo Categories:

     

    Human Connection

    Share one image that demonstrates a connection you made or witnessed while abroad.

      • You and another student or a local
      • A teacher or family member
      • The intersection of two cultures

     

    Beautiful Surroundings

    Select the most beautiful, remarkable photo that captures a moment from your experience.

    • An Instagram-worthy shot
    • A street photograph
    • A glimpse into nature

     

    Day in the Life 

    Choose a photo that represents a day in your study abroad life.

    • Your homestay or your walk to class
    • Your day of learning, studying, volunteering, or sightseeing
    • You and your classmates experiencing the city

     

    Who Can Enter?

    • UMTC undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program
    • Those who have traveled outside the United States (study abroad is optional)

    What Photos Can Be Submitted?

    • Taken outside of the United States
    • Taken by you (the person submitting the photo)
    • May not be digitally altered beyond basic color correction
    • Must be color (no black and white or sepia)
    • Must be the original digital file (no Facebook or Instagram photos)
    • Photos must be submitted as .jpeg, or .png file types and must be at least 2000px by 1000px at 300 dpi (resolution)

    What Are the Rules?

    • 1 photo per person per category (maximum of 3 photos)
    • Each photo must be entered into one of the specified categories
    • All entries must be submitted online
        • Each submission must include a brief paragraph (80–100 words) describing the photo
        • Entries will be disqualified if they suggest inappropriate behavior, disrespect toward local cultures, or anything that goes against the UofM Student Conduct Code 

       

      10 finalists will be chosen from the pool of submissions for online voting that takes place on November 12–16.
