Affiliate programs charge a program cost which is inclusive of the affiliate's program cost, University of Minnesota Advising, Placement, Academic and Administrative Costs (APAAC), and international travel, health, and security insurance. Based on these additional services and benefits, the overall program cost may be higher than the affiliate's published program cost.
How to Calculate the Total Program Cost
- Find your affiliate program cost by visiting your affiliate's fee website.
- Find your affiliate program on the charts below
- Add the APAAC amount to the affiliate's published program cost (available on the affiliate's website).
- Multiply the International Health Insurance rate by the number of days you will be abroad. View the LAC's insurance web page for more information about the required international health insurance policy.
- Apply the fee reduction offered by your affiliate program, if applicable.
Advising, Placement, Academic, and Administrative Costs (APAAC)
The APAAC covers:
- Application processing
- Advising services
- Orientation
- Course registration
- Grade transfer and posting for resident credit
- Program billing
- Financial aid assistance, when applicable
Fee Reductions
The Learning Abroad Center works closely with a select portfolio of education abroad organizations, called affiliates, that provide learning abroad opportunities for University of Minnesota students. The Learning Abroad Center negotiates with the affiliates for a fee reduction whenever possible. All affiliate fee reductions are entirely passed on to students.

CET - Does not apply to Study Abroad in Jordan (CET Jordan). The total fees for this program are listed on the Learning Abroad Center's website under the Fees tab and already include all fee reductions. CET offers an additional $500 fee reduction to continuing students (ex: adding a semester program to a summer program or a summer program to a semester program). The academic year fee reduction listed above already includes the continuing discount.
IFSA - Students on the IFSA Prague Tech Career Accelerator also receive a $500 travel grant. Summer fee reduction is the same amount regardless of how many summer terms a student enrolls in.
IES - All students will automatically receive a $1,000 fee reduction and may be eligible for an additional reduction, up to $7,000, depending on your financial aid eligibility. To apply for these additional IES funds, complete IES's Study Abroad Scholarships & Aid Application.
SEA - SEA will provide the first two students to confirm annually a fee reduction making the total cost of attendance for participation in the SEA program equal to the total cost of attendance for a UofM student paying resident tuition and living on campus. See One Stop for estimated cost of attendance.
