Why Study Abroad?
Enhance Your Degree: Earn Credits & Seek Adventure
Stay on track to graduate by taking classes in your major and engaging with coursework in ways you can’t on campus.
During my time in Senegal I earned credits for my major and minors. I also gained working experience! It was such an amazing opportunity to explore a beautiful country, culture, and language.
Grow & Push Yourself: Create Stories You’ll Tell Forever
Experience personal growth, build lifelong skills, and see the world through new perspectives.
Adapting to the culture, food, transportation, housing, and language without any previous travel experience greatly improved my independence as a college graduate.
Build Your Resumé & Set Yourself Apart
Study abroad is a differentiator and can help you get your first job...and even earn more than those who don't study abroad!
I interned at the Multiple Sclerosis Association in Toledo. I got to build a lot of different skills that will be useful in the workforce and also for medical school.
Explore the World Without FOMO
A top regret from alumni is that they didn’t study abroad. Don’t look back on your time as a Gopher wishing you had gone abroad!
At first, I was very hesitant to go. Looking back, I can confidently say it was one of the most enriching and rewarding experiences of my life, and I would recommend it to every student considering it.
Understanding Costs
There are many ways to finance your experience. Study abroad may be more affordable than you think!
The Learning Abroad Center awards over $600,000 per year in scholarships to support students studying abroad.
Most financial aid and scholarships can be applied to the cost of study abroad. Your college or department might also have scholarships available.
Our Comparing Costs tool helps you explore program price points. Some programs are less expensive than studying on the Twin Cities campus!
