- Learn to appreciate diverse world views, accept complexity, and embrace ambiguity; added benefit of reciprocity to foster mutual respect and understanding
- Experience a new culturally specific academic system and incorporate different academic perspectives
- Identify and communicate how your experience abroad has impacted you personally, academically, and professionally
Program Structure
You are required to maintain a minimum of 12 credits (24 ECTS) per semester at UvA and 15 credits (30 ECTS) per semester at AUC.
Coursework
Grade & Credit Conversion Scale (PDF)
You receive resident credit for the courses you take. Your grades factor into your University of Minnesota GPA and each course appears on your transcript with an A/F grade. Consult the Learning Abroad Center's Academic Policies page for more information.
At the time of application, you should have at least one full year (4–5 courses) of completed coursework in your chosen major. You will not be accepted by the University of Amsterdam without this coursework completed.
If you are studying at AUC Fall or Spring semester, you must take a minimum of 15 credits (30 ECTS credits), which equals 5 courses. If you are studying at UvA for Fall or Spring semester, you must take a minimum of 12 credits (24 ECTS credits), number of courses varies. Due to block scheduling, if you are studying at UvA for Fall semester only, you cannot take courses offered during block 3.
Outside of the AUC Programme, you must take most of your courses (60%) within your accepting faculty, college, or school of your major. In some cases, it is possible to take 1–2 courses outside of your major at a different faculty, college, or school. However, this can only be arranged on a case-by-case basis by the international officer of your accepting faculty and is dependent on availability of courses and specific course requirements.
