Program Structure

Program Level
Upper and lower division coursework available.
Courseload

You are required to maintain a minimum of 12 credits (24 ECTS) per semester at UvA and 15 credits (30 ECTS) per semester at AUC.

Coursework

Grade & Credit Conversion Scale (PDF)

You receive resident credit for the courses you take. Your grades factor into your University of Minnesota GPA and each course appears on your transcript with an A/F grade. Consult the Learning Abroad Center's Academic Policies page for more information.

At the time of application, you should have at least one full year (4–5 courses) of completed coursework in your chosen major. You will not be accepted by the University of Amsterdam without this coursework completed.

If you are studying at AUC Fall or Spring semester, you must take a minimum of 15 credits (30 ECTS credits), which equals 5 courses. If you are studying at UvA for Fall or Spring semester, you must take a minimum of 12 credits (24 ECTS credits), number of courses varies. Due to block scheduling, if you are studying at UvA for Fall semester only, you cannot take courses offered during block 3.

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers a wide variety of English-taught courses in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Psychology, Business and Economics, Law, Natural Sciences, Educational Sciences, Future Planet Studies, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Geography, and Planning and Development Studies. You are admitted to a specific Faculty, and will be expected to follow most of your coursework from your chosen Faculty. You should not expect to be able to take coursework across multiple Faculties at UvA.

Course information can be found at the UvA Entry Requirements and Course Selection webpage. Additional information about the various faculties, and admission requirements are found in the Courses and Faculty Guide (PDF).

Amsterdam University College (AUC) is a college within the University of Amsterdam emphasizing liberal arts and interdisciplinary education. Course listings are available in the AUC Course Catalog.

NOTE: You are not able to take courses from both UvA and AUC. You must indicate on the initial application which institution you are applying to.

Global Identity

Global Identity: Connecting Your International Experience with Your Future is an optional 1-credit online course that helps you process your international experience and apply what you've learned upon your return. Global Identity gives you the opportunity to work individually with a trained cultural mentor, helping you articulate your newly acquired skills and differentiating you from your peers.

To access more information about the course, visit the Global Identity Course Information page.

Fees

University of Minnesota participants pay the program fee instead of on-campus tuition and fees for the term they are abroad.

If you do not see a budget estimate for the term you intend to go abroad, the fee has not yet been finalized. We strive to post fees for this program at least 30 days prior to the application deadline. The Learning Abroad Center will delay the posting of some fees until enrollments, inflation, and exchange rates are determined. Note the average increase in fees will be 3–10%. Program fees are based on estimates and may change depending on international economic factors.

Fees or tuition from home institutions may be added to or differ from the University of Minnesota Learning Abroad Center fees listed on this page.
