About

Cambodia is often the forgotten nation of American empire building through the Vietnam War. With a focus on Cambodia, this course examines the role of public memorials for communicating the social, political, and cultural priorities and memories of groups and communities. You will have the opportunity to engage in a place-based experience in Cambodia and develop international skills of critical thinking, community engagement, intercultural communication, and human rights awareness. Course learning will take place through engaging experiences with readings and film, as well as exchanges with classmates, Cambodian students, and community members across a dynamic semester. You will begin your learning locally on campus at the University of Minnesota through class meetings and discussion, followed by in-country learning in Cambodia.
