About

Spend your summer with CSE first year students and other Big Ten STEM students in beautiful Dublin while fulfilling Physics II (PHYS 1302) and liberal education requirements (Historical Perspectives and Global Perspectives). This unique summer program is designed in partnership with University College Dublin (UCD), and serves students from Big Ten institutions. 

Take courses taught by UCD faculty, including second year physics and a Modern Ireland course that seeks to recreate the excitement, turmoil, and difficulties faced by the country from the Irish Revolution through Brexit. Several excursions are included. Housing and a “Monday to Friday” two-meals-per-day plan are provided by UCD.

Housing & Meals

You will have private rooms with a private bathroom, in an apartment shared with other students. The apartments have shared living spaces and a shared kitchen. The buildings have on-site laundry. Meal plans are provided on the UCD campus, Monday through Friday, two meals per day.

Academics

You will take 2 classes: Physics II and Modern Ireland: Irish Revolution to Brexit. The history course has been approved for 2 liberal education requirements: Historical Perspectives and Global Perspectives.

You will earn 8 transfer credits for this experience.

All courses are taught by UCD faculty with excellent summer staff support.

Program Fee

The program fee includes tuition, housing, insurance, and LAC administrative costs. You must also budget for visa, passport and passport photos, airfare, meals not included, personal/miscellaneous living expenses, and spending money.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel after April 1, you will be charged a €150 fee by University College Dublin through the University of Minnesota, in addition to other fees by the University of Minnesota if canceling after confirmation, regardless of date. In the event you must cancel your enrollment, CSE will adhere to the Learning Abroad Center's cancellation policy.

Next Steps

  1. After you complete all required application checklist items, you will receive an automated email message indicating your application is ready to be reviewed.
  2. Your completed application will be reviewed by the program leader in the sponsoring college/department.
  3. If admitted, the Confirmation & Payment Agreement form will be added to your checklist. Complete this form to secure your spot on the program. By submitting the form, you also give your approval for the program deposit to be billed to your UofM student account.
  4. Complete the confirmation checklist, which include the following items in additional to program-specific forms:

    • Health Information Form
    • Online Health & Safety Orientation
    • Release & Waiver
  5. You will receive information about additional steps from the sponsoring college/department.
