An experience abroad is often the single most important and rewarding activity a student engages in during their academic career. It can also be a lot of hard work, and at times the process is by its nature confusing and complex. You can always call or come in to see us.

If You're New to Study Abroad

  1. Attend a First Step Meeting
  2. Create a Profile or Manage Your Checklist Online.

Only University of Minnesota students are required to create a profile.
Non–University of Minnesota students should visit the Non UofM Students web page for a step-by-step guide on how to go abroad with the UofM.

In Person First Step for Study Abroad meetings guide you through the basics of going abroad. They also cover credit bearing internships & service-learning as needed. No appointment necessary, 20-30 minutes.

Location: 230 Heller Hall, West Bank (map)

First Step Schedule

Monday: 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday: 1:30 p.m.
Friday: 1:30 p.m.
*Please note that because we cover so much information in a short period of time, if you are late you will have to attend a different in-person First Step meeting or complete the online First Step

Liberal Education Database

Many courses have already been reviewed to meet Liberal Education requirements. Go to the Liberal Education Database to search for courses or submit ones for approval.

Twin Cities Campus:
