The Learning Abroad Center's CIEE Scholarship provides study abroad awards for University of Minnesota undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need who are participating on a CIEE study abroad program.
This scholarship is intended to:
ease the financial barrier of study abroad for students with significant financial need.
provide assurance of funding earlier in the process and encourage early financial planning.
The CIEE Scholarship is not merit based and awards are granted based on the strength of a student’s essay.
how thoroughly you answer the specific essay questions
how well written your essay is, in terms of grammar, punctuation and organization
This application is comprised of 2 separate essay questions:
Essay Question #1
1) What motivated you to select your particular study abroad program? Address any academic, career, and/or personal goals that were part of your decision, and expand on one or more of them*. (350 words maximum)
Essay question #2
2) Based on your financial need, why is it important that you receive this particular scholarship to support your experience? Elaborate on the specifics of your financial circumstances that impact your ability to study abroad, and how you plan to supplement this scholarship with other work, scholarship, loans, and funding opportunities. (300 words maximum)
