Freshman Seminars Abroad are a unique opportunity for first-year students to combine on-campus class during spring semester with study abroad during spring break.
Term: Spring Semester 2018 with study abroad during Spring Break 2018
Spring 2018 on-campus class time: Fridays from 9:35 a.m.–12:30 p.m.; 262 McNeal Hall, St. Paul Campus

- Open to degree-seeking first-year students in all colleges and majors
Taught in English by a University of Minnesota professor.
This seminar combines an investigation of French Impressionist painters, their works, and their subjects with an exploration of the sketching and painting process. On campus, you will practice various watercolor and pastel exercises. In France, you will visit several sites where Impressionist artists worked and where you also will have an opportunity to create.
No previous art or art history experience is required, only a willingness to participate in the process.
Receive credit for DES 1403.
