IES European Union — Academics

Program Structure

IES is an affiliated program. You receive resident credit for the courses you take. Your grades count toward your University of Minnesota GPA and each course appears on your transcript. More information can be found in the Academics Policy.

Coursework

You will take the EU Studies Integrative Seminar, a German-language courses (optional for students at advanced level), and 3 other courses. Field study is a major component and integrated into the program through three field study tours throughout the European continent and a Model European Union simulation. Internships are available in various fields. Instruction is in English by German faculty.

Typical credits: 15 for fall or spring semester.

Summer Program

You will enroll in the mandatory integrative seminar From Marginalization to Inclusion: The Balkans, Turkey, and the EU and choose one of 3 elective courses. A highlight of the program is two 6-day field study trips to Turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Typical credits: 6 for summer.
