About Chinese Government Scholarship Program
The Chinese Government Scholarship is made available through the China Center's partnership with the People's Republic of China Consulate General in Chicago. The Chinese Government Scholarship is a full academic-year scholarship to a University of Minnesota undergraduate or graduate student for study at a university in mainland China. The scholarship will cover tuition and room and board, and will pay a small monthly stipend to cover books and incidental expenses. International airfare, health insurance, the physical exam requirement, and any study abroad service fees are not included.
Applicants can select from a list of University of Minnesota partner schools in China. These institutions of higher education are authorized by the Ministry of Education of China to accept international students to study in China under Chinese Government Scholarship program.
Curriculum differs across universities but most undergraduate students focus on Chinese language and culture.
The China Center application deadline for this program is the end of December. Applications are reviewed by a committee and applicants may also interview with the committee. As there is commonly only one scholarship for University of Minnesota students, this program is competitive and students are encouraged to apply for other options in China in case they are not awarded the scholarship.
Graduate Student Eligibility
Graduate applicants must have completed a minimum of three years of Chinese language instruction or demonstrate the ability to complete graduate level study or research in Chinese.
Program fees include tuition, fees, and international health insurance. Housing, meals, airfare, and personal expenses are additional.
