  2. About CFANS Exchange in New Zealand

    The University of Otago, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the southern hemisphere, is located in Dunedin, on New Zealand's South Island. Dunedin, New Zealand's "college town," is friendly and intimate with a population of 120,000 and a thriving student population. While there is a relaxed feel about the city, opportunities abound for pursuing outdoor and sporting activities.

    Terms available include Fall Semester, Spring Semester, and Academic Year.

    Application Deadline

    Open to sophomore, junior, and senior Food Science & Nutrition majors with a 3.0 GPA and above.

    Application deadline for Spring Semester: November 15.

    Application deadline for Fall Semester and Academic Year: March 15.

    Academics

    Typical credits: 13 US semester credits.

    Program Fee

    The final program fee is still being determined. The program fee will include tuition, fees, and international insurance. The student will have to budget separately for airfare, housing, meals, and personal expenses.

  3. Prepare

    It is your responsibility to first submit application materials to Sara Cannon in the Department of Food Science & Nutrition in the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences at the University of Minnesota.  Do not complete the LAC online application until you have received instructions from the Learning Abroad Center.  The department alerts the LAC to verify that you have been admitted to the exchange before we have you fill out a LAC online application.  To complete the online application for this program, you will need to select or provide the following information on the online application:

    Submit

    University of Minnesota Student—apply

    Use your University of Minnesota internet ID and password to log into the Education Abroad application system. Your student account will be charged a $50 application fee.

    Complete

    Once you submit your application, you will receive an email notification confirming that your application was received. A Learning Abroad Center representative will review your submission. Once you have been accepted to your host institution, you will be assigned a confirmation checklist, which will include the following items:

    • Confirmation and Payment Agreement
    • Health Information Form
    • University of Minnesota Release and Waiver
    • Academic Planning Form (optional)
    • Power of Attorney (optional)

    Detailed descriptions and instructions for submitting each checklist item are included on the confirmation checklist assigned to you. You should also continue working with the Institute for Global Studies and your host institution for pre-departure considerations.

    Next Steps

    1. Log into the online application to review the confirmation checklist and submit the required items.
    2. Once all items have been submitted, your participation will be confirmed and your student account will be billed for the program deposit.
    3. If you decide not to continue with the application process, log into the online application and submit a Cancel Request. You must also notify the Department of Food Science & Nutrition of your cancellation.
