Internship Selection and Monitoring Process
In order to ensure a meaningful internship experience, the MSID program has a careful selection, monitoring and reflection process.
- Your completed MSID Internship Preference Form, included with your acceptance is forwarded to MSID’s in-country coordinators.
- The coordinators make contact with organizations working in the field you identified and inquire about their interest in hosting an MSID participant. Once a tentative placement has been identified, you have an opportunity to discuss it during the semester classroom phase, before the placement is finalized. Most requests for placements within a general field can be accommodated, but you should expect that adjustments may be made based on in-country issues.
- The MSID director and staff accompany you to your internship site, introduce you, and ensure that the housing and internship arrangements are secured.
- The MSID director or an appointed faculty member visit you once during the internship period and contact you periodically to ensure that the internship is progressing smoothly.
- You write short assignments during the internship and a longer course paper due at the end of the semester that provide you with the opportunity to reflect on your experience.
- At the end of each semester, you gather in the host for a seminar, which helps integrate experiences and newly acquired knowledge.
