Internship Selection and Monitoring Process

In order to ensure a meaningful internship experience, the MSID program has a careful selection, monitoring and reflection process.

  1. Your completed MSID Internship Preference Form, included with your acceptance is forwarded to MSID’s in-country coordinators.
  2. The coordinators make contact with organizations working in the field you identified and inquire about their interest in hosting an MSID participant. Once a tentative placement has been identified, you have an opportunity to discuss it during the semester classroom phase, before the placement is finalized. Most requests for placements within a general field can be accommodated, but you should expect that adjustments may be made based on in-country issues.
  3. The MSID director and staff accompany you to your internship site, introduce you, and ensure that the housing and internship arrangements are secured.
  4. The MSID director or an appointed faculty member visit you once during the internship period and contact you periodically to ensure that the internship is progressing smoothly.
  5. You write short assignments during the internship and a longer course paper due at the end of the semester that provide you with the opportunity to reflect on your experience.
  6. At the end of each semester, you gather in the host for a seminar, which helps integrate experiences and newly acquired knowledge.
